The 2023 San Francisco Artciál International Piano Competition welcomes all pianists in different ages globally!

Location: San Francisco Conservatory of Music (August, 2023)

The top three grand winners will receive cash prizes, trophies, certificates, and masterclasses with judges. The first place winner will be offered the opportunity to perform a solo recital at SFCM during the 2024 summer session. The preliminary round will be an online format. All performances will be judged from the submitted videos. The twelve selected finalists will perform live before judges in the Caroline Concert Hall at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, San Francisco, CA on August 2-3, 2023. Applications must be submitted by May 15th, 2023.

OVERVIEW 

The goal of the competition is to bring together pianists of different cultures and ages, to explore and promote talented and promising musicians, and to provide them with opportunities for further development.

 

IMPORTANT DATE 

  • Feb. 15, 2023 - Online application opens

  • April 30, 2023 - Deadline for submitting video recordings 

  • May 15, 2023 - New Deadline for application submitting video recordings 

  • May 20, 2023 - Finalists announced

  • August 4, 2023 - Final Round of the Competition (San Francisco) 

 

GENERAL 

The 2023 Artciál International Music Competition and Festival is thrilled to announce that it will take place from July 1-August 10, in San Francisco, CA, USA. 

All complete applications will be screened by the Preliminary Round Committee.

Candidates who studied with a Jury member (not including Master Classes) after August 1, 2022 shall not be allowed to compete. 

All stages of the Competition will be open to the public. 

 

APPLICATIONS are currently open. The deadline to apply is April 30 has been extended to May 15, 2023. 

ELIGIBILITY:  

The competition is open to pianists of all nationalities, ages 19-35 by the application deadline, May 15, 2023. 

*Applicants should select the correct age group on the application form that corresponds to their age as of August 5, 2023.

First-prize winners of the past AIPC are not eligible to apply.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS 

First Round (Video recording Only)

15-20 mins repertoire 

Free choice of repertoire. Links to your recordings must be submitted with the application. 

Final Round (San Francisco Conservatory of Music)

6-12 Finalists, 30-40 mins repertoire 

Free choice of repertoire up to the time limit. Program from the preliminary stage may repeated. 

 

All pieces must be performed by memory. 

The competitor shall play only those pieces which she/he has stated on the online application form. No repertoire changes will be permitted after July 1st, 2023. 

The pieces may be performed with or without repeat, at the Competitor’s discretion.

A nonrefundable application fee of $165 and the video recordings of the preliminary round should be submitted in US dollars with the application. The video recordings should be of the highest possible quality to show the applicants’ best artistry. Only Solo repertoire will be accepted, no chamber or concerto performance will be accepted. 

 

All application materials must be submitted by May 15, 2023 and the competition committee will send the result to applicants by May 20th.

COMPETITION RULES

All works must be performed by memory.

The deadline for program changes is July 5th (Only accepted once). 

The decisions of the Competition Committee and the Competition jury are final in all matters.

RECORDING REQUIREMENTS

*Works may be recorded separately or in one take. 

*The total duration should not exceed the requirements.

*Video recordings should be of the highest possible quality to show your best artistry. 

*The performer’s hands, face, and feet must be visible during the recording. 

*Uploading methods are included: YouTube, Bilibili, or Youku.

HOW TO APPLY

  1. All candidates must submit an online application form here. (Application deadline is April 30, 2023)

  2. Read Official Regulations & Rules 

  3. Upload and provide recording videos on YouTube, Youku, and Bilibili

  4. Scan a proof of date of birth (copy of the first page of your passport/birth certificate or other government issued ID) and send it to info@artcialmusicfoundation.org

  5. Pay the application fee. (Non-refundable payments are accepted online through Paypal, Zelle, and Official Website.  

  6. Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance to the competition will be sent to applicants by email no later than June 15, 2023
